Surajit Goswami is an independent filmmaker and writer based in Kolkata, India, working primarily in Bengali cinema and digital storytelling. His creative journey began with music, where he explored songwriting and performed original compositions at inter-college events during his college years. His first encounter with filmmaking came through a college short-film competition in 2015–16, which gradually developed into a deeper fascination with cinema and visual storytelling. Coming from an academic background in Mathematics, he went on to pursue postgraduate studies in Media Studies, specialising in Film and Television. Alongside his academic exploration, he developed his understanding of the craft through practical experience, assisting on projects at SRFTI and working with directors across the Bengali and Hindi film industries. His early directorial works include Category Others (2019), which explores transgender and LGBTQ+ experiences, and Parsec (2020), a space-themed love story made during the lockdown. Both films received recognition and awards at several national and international film festivals, marking significant milestones in his journey as a filmmaker.
 

Over the years, Surajit has worked as an Assistant and Associate Director on various Bengali and Hindi film projects, gaining experience across different stages of filmmaking and collaborating with actors, writers, and creative teams. He has also directed television commercials and digital advertisements under the banner of Hasnuhana Studios, while continuing to develop screenplays for Bengali feature films as a freelance screenwriter. In 2023, he independently created Mitra Hostel, a comedy-drama web series released on YouTube, bringing together his interests in writing, direction, character development, and music. He also composed the background score for the entire series, continuing a creative association with music that dates back to his college years. Surajit's storytelling is often drawn towards human relationships, familiar settings, and emotions rooted in everyday life. He is particularly interested in personal conflicts, quieter struggles, and the ways individual experiences can reflect larger social realities. At the same time, his approach leaves room for symbolism, visual expression, and experimentation with different genres and narrative forms. He continues to explore new stories and creative possibilities, remaining open to collaborations with fellow filmmakers and artists from diverse backgrounds.
